Our MT Recommendations

Sightseeing

Going-to-the-sun road: this a MUST for your visit. If you only do one thing, do this. The drive is not for the faint of heart, so if you prefer to not drive it yourself, check out some of these tours.

** If you plan to drive into the park, you’ll need a vehicle reservation in addition to a park pass to get into certain entrances of Glacier Park. Make sure to check out the website for details **

Sun Tours: Blackfeet owned and operated

Red Bus Tours: vintage red buses seen throughout the park

Many Glacier: this is one of Lindsay’s favorite parts of the park.

Restaurants and bars

Food options are limited as we get more rural, so truthfully it will be kinda whatever is around. That being said, these are some of our go-to stops on the route from Kalispell to East Glacier Park.

Huckleberry pie at Glacier Highland Restaurant (West Glacier)

Moose’s Saloon, mostly for the vibe. Beer and pizza. (Kalispell)

Sweet peaks ice cream (Kalispell)

Fleur bake shop (Whitefish)

LOGE, with the new owners they overhauled the menu at the restaurant. Last time we passed through they were still working on the menu but the new appetizers were good. (Essex)

Montana Coffee Roasters: “Montana Morning” is Lindsay and Cordell’s favorite blend. (Columbia Falls; Whitefish)

Grocery Stores

Costco, Safeway, Rosauers, Albertsons, etc. in Kalispell.

There are small “trading posts” in East Glacier but selection will be limited and prices likely higher.

Glacier Park Hikes

SHORTER HIKES

coming soon

LONG HIKES for the athletic

Granite park chalet (Going-to-the-sun road/Logan pass) is a classic. Park at the hairpin turn and take the shuttle to the top of going-to-the-sun. Begin your hike here. Warning: it’s a LONG hike. And the last 3 miles are pretty rough just because you’re ready to be done. And sometimes down hill is hard. However, the views are epic. And everyone that goes on it loves it! Alternative is to just hike part of it and do and out-and-back.

Grinnell Glacier (Many Glacier)

Ptarmigan Tunnel (Many Glacier)

Other things to do around Glacier

White water rafting

Rodeo: Lindsay will post local rodeos here as the dates are announced. Check back closer to May/June!

Fly fishing

Tribal powwow: Lindsay will post local powwow dates here as they’re announced. Check back closer to May/June!

Relaxing by a lake! Bring a picnic and some drinks (no glass containers). Enjoy the day relaxing by a lake and swimming.

Other places to see within western MT

Whitefish: small and charming tourist town. Cute cafes, great breweries, Whitefish mountain for a chairlift ride and a view. Mountain biking and zip-lining available here, too.

Flathead Lake: rent a cabin and relax! Enjoy the crystal clear waters, beautiful rocks. Swim, drink, read a book, sleep, go on walks.

Bigfork: cute little town with some quaint shops and restaurants. Also has a summer only playhouse if you’d like to check out a live show!

Polebridge: off the beaten path, literally. But a fun day trip to the extreme west side of Glacier Park. Get a huckleberry bear claw at the mercantile, made daily on premise. Check out Bowman lake and go on a hike.

Waterton: the portion of Glacier park that’s in Canada. You’ll need a passport. Worth it.
